Quy Doan faces felony drug charges
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Officers say they uncovered an elaborate pot-growing operation in a home in quiet, suburban Plainfield on Tuesday.
Police say a man living among young families was growing almost 100 pot plants in his house.
"It's definitely a family-oriented neighborhood," says Marty Mitchell. "There's a park three houses past where this happened."
That's why Mitchell and his wife were shocked when they found out two doors down from them, their neighbor had a massive cannabis growing operation.
These are the pictures of what the operation looked like when police busted it last night.
"The entire house was set up specifically as a grow house. It was no longer used to reside in. There was probably one room left in the house they could actually sleep in if they needed to. Otherwise, every room in that house had been reconstructed," Plainfield Police Sergeant Mike Fisher said.
Police found over $1 million worth of drugs inside the home, including 178 ecstasy pills, 118 cannabis plants, and 65 pounds of loose marijuana.
"They had an elaborate watering system. They had bypassed the ComEd electrical system so they wouldn't be on the radar for using too much electricity," Fisher explains.
Quy Doan, 30, is facing a multitude of felony drug charges.
"It's something that in a million years we would've never thought that this would happen here, but I guess this goes to show it can happen anywhere," Mitchell says.
Plainfield police say it's unclear whether or not this person may have been operating with someone else. It is still an active investigation. Police and the DEA are investigating whether even more homes have similar operations in different locations.
