LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. -

Investigators handling the search for a missing New Jersey woman say they have located a female body in a canal in Lambertville, right around the area where Sarah Majoras was last seen.

Investigators say the body appears to match the description of Majoras, but they have not yet determined the identity of the body.

"While the clothing description is consistent with what Sarah Majoras was wearing, a positive identification, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be handled by the Hunterdon County Medical Examiner," Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns said in a statement.

"The investigation still remains active until investigators determine what happened to Ms. Majoras," Kearns said.

Investigators don't believe foul play is involved.

"While we have no substantial evidence of foul play, our minds remain open, we are looking at all possibilities, and we continue to pursue any information we can in an attempt to make sense of what might have happened."

Investigators say the body was found just before 5 p.m. in the D & R Canal near the lock south of Bridge Street in Lambertville. Divers from the New Jersey State Police "TEAMS" Unit made the discovery after police say a boot was found in the canal by another diver earlier in the afternoon.

Majoras was last seen early Saturday morning leaving John and Peter's, a bar located on Main Street in New Hope.

Employees and bar patrons called themselves Sarah's second family.

Owner John Larsen closed the bar for the night so they could share their memories of the 39-year-old bartender.

"She was the smartest person,"exclaimed Larsen. She was the kindest person. And she was surprisingly tough he said, recounting how she vowed to chain herself to a tree he wanted to cut down after it kept blowing leaves on the business.

Others like neighboring business owner Peter Markowicz remembered her for her smile. "The picture I have of her is waving through my window. I always saw her smiling. She was a happy girl. "

Since Sarah's  disappearance, searchers from more than a dozen state and local departments and agencies have scoured the area between New Hope and Lambertville.

On Tuesday, police released surveillance images that captured Majoras crossing the New Hope-Lambertville Free Bridge.

The search, which also included dozens of members of the community, was updated regularly on social media. Members of the community even created a special hashtag on Twitter for people to post updates or tips.

Investigators are still asking that anyone with information surrounding her disappearance contact the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office through its communications line at 908-284-6162.
