FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. -

A once-endangered species has been spotted in Georgia and it seems they've enrolled in college! Berry College in Rome has captured the attention of the world with its unusual guests – American bald eagles.

Berry College boasts the world's largest campus, so you're bound to see a bird or two. But not many draw as much attention and awe as the eagles. With binoculars around their necks and cameras in hand, students and staff say they almost can't believe what they're seeing.

"Wow! It's just amazing," said Assistant Professor of Biology Dr. Renee Carlton.

The Director of Sustainability at the campus, Eddie Elsberry, said he was surprised when he heard about the location of the eagles and their nest.

The eagles have been named Henry and Martha after Berry's founder Martha Berry and Berry contributor Henry Ford. The eagles have set up a massive nest just behind the school's athletic center.

"She'll actually, when she rolls, she'll actually get up off the eggs, then roll them and then sit back down," said Carlton.

The couple is expecting eaglets. According to observers, thanks to a campus webcam includes people from as far away as Japan, Henry and Martha are quite the characters.

"The female is very particular about the way she wants the nest. He'll bring something in, a big stick and she'll shift it and he might touch it and move it a little bit and she doesn't like that and she lets him know, No, this is where I want the stick," said Carlton.

While FOX 5 cameras were on the scene, observers realized that the eggs had actually hatched. Henry brought home a squirrel and Martha ripped it into tiny pieces to feed it to her babies.

"It's been pretty amazing to know that eagles are actually on this campus. It's a testament to the quality of habitat around here," said Carlton.

Eagles have been spotted in the area before, but this is the first documented nest in the modern history of Floyd County. To view the eagles through the Berry College Eaglecam, click here!
