DETROIT (WJBK) -- A mother is furious after her special needs daughter was attacked and the video showed up on Facebook.

It happened inside Drew Transition Center, a Detroit public school for young adults with special needs.

"She threw me.  She was just stomping me," said 23-year-old Alondra Jones.

A student recorded the whole thing, then posted the video on his Facebook page.

Alondra has a hard time communicating and never told her mother about the attack, but she knew something was wrong.

"The nurse from the school called me and told me that I need to come up there.  She had something for me to see," said Maxine Williams.

That was almost ten days after the video hit Facebook.

"It's painful to me as a mother to see my child go through that and not knowing that she was going through it sending her to school every day," Williams remarked.

She said she met with the principal that day.

"The principal of the school [told] me, 'Oh, I heard it was a fight.'  Did you see that?  That wasn't a fight.  That was an assault," Williams said.  "If you thought it was a fight, why didn't you inform me?  He said, 'I assumed you knew.'"

Detroit Public Schools released a statement that raises even more questions.  DPS claims school officials first heard about the fight on January 25, the day Williams contacted them.  But the fight happened inside the school and the video shows there was an adult standing right there.

DPS also says it was not possible to determine the identities of the subjects involved in the attack because of the quality of the video provided, but at least one frame seemed pretty clear.

"This happened inside the school.  How [do] you [not] know what's going on at this school?  And it's a special needs school.  How [are] you... not monitoring these kids?" said Williams.

Until that question is answered, it appears Alondra is the one being punished.

"There's no way I'm going to send my child back to that school," Williams said.

I've been told DPS police have filed charges in connection with this incident.

Meanwhile, Alondra's mother said she has not been told anything or contacted and she does not know what to do next.
