Man convicted of manslaughter in Tucson shooting

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Tucson man is facing up to 21 years in prison after being convicted of manslaughter.

Pima County prosecutors say jurors deliberated nine hours over two days before returning a verdict Monday in the case of 31-year-old Louis Machado.

He was charged in the killing of 16-year-old Rebecca Ramsay, who was fatally shot in her front yard on Oct. 25, 2000.

It was the second time Machado was tried in the case.

He was convicted of second-degree murder in 2008, but the verdict was overturned by the state Court of Appeals.

The court found the judge shouldn't have limited evidence possibly linking the murder to another suspect.

The Arizona Daily Star says Machado is facing a prison term of between seven and 21 years when he's sentenced March 4.
