Attempted Ga. burglar surrenders to police

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Police say the attempted burglary suspect who was thwarted by a wheelchair-bound Army veteran last week has surrendered to police.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports 19-year-old Demarcus Vernon Ellison is being held in the Clarke County Jail.

Authorities said 53-year-old Mark Sikes was in bed when Ellison kicked his door in on Jan. 23. Sikes told the newspaper he reached into his nightstand for his gun, pointed it at the alleged intruder and told him to leave his property immediately.

Police say Ellison fled without taking anything.
