Gasparilla, make way for the Lynx

Posted: Updated:
ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) -

With sails billowing and cannons booming, the tall ship Lynx arrived in Tampa Bay in style on Friday, a fitting way to kick off Gasparilla weekend.

The 122-foot vessel includes a 94-foot mainmast and is an exact replica of the armed privateer Lynx, which helped America during the War of 1812 until it was captured by the British.

The replica Lynx sailed under the Skyway at 10 a.m. and arrived at the Harborage Marina in downtown St. Pete not long after.  Tours are available while the ship is docked, though other excursions, like the trip across the bay for Gasparilla on Saturday, are fully booked.
