Man drives to police station after shot in carjacking

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

A man is recovering in a hospital after being shot during an attempted carjacking Wednesday night.

Police say the man was able to drive himself to a nearby police station for help, after he was shot with an assault rifle.

Phoenix police say two men were inside a parked SUV near 19th Avenue and Baseline when they were approached by two other men trying to steal the car.

When the driver refused to get out of the SUV, the suspects shot the driver in the stomach with an AK-47 and took off.

The victim was able to drive himself to the police station near 19th Avenue and Southern to get help.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, but we're not sure the extent of his injuries.

Officers say the suspects got away in a light brown car and may have headed west.

No word on whether any arrests have been made.
