Firefighters respond to massive Oak Park house fire

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Firefighters from seven suburbs responded to a massive house fire in Oak Park Wednesday evening.

Nobody was home when the fire broke out in the basement of the house in the 800 block of N. Lombard.

An elderly woman living next door was evacuated along with her dog.

Oak Park's battalion chief says the deep cold didn't help.

"Any kind of fire that we got now we gotta deal with the ice, the cold and now a little bit of snow on the ground," says Chief Kevin Wiley. "Just makes things very treacherous for us even to walk."

No one was hurt battling the fire, which could take several more hours to put out.
