DETROIT (WJBK) -- Sasha was shivering, chained up and stuck out in the cold.  With the temperature at only 12 degrees, a dog house with hay just wasn't enough.  Her water was freezing so fast she couldn't drink it.  The people watching her had nowhere else to put her.

A man had been watching Sasha for his girlfriend, then ended up in jail.  Poor Sasha was outside for four days during the coldest temperatures we've seen in years.

Fortunately, Detroit Dog Rescue has answered our call for help.

"Dogs' under bodies have no fur.  The exposure, it's dangerous, and what happens is the body and the organs start to shut down eventually and it dies a slow death," says Dante Dasaro.

He came with his team to pick up Sasha.  She was thrilled to be off the chain and heading for warmth.

Sasha is quite a love.  She will be checked out by a vet and eventually up for adoption on the DDR Facebook page and website.

In the meantime, if you have a pet please bring him or her inside.

"Everybody... take your dog in right now when it's this cold.  Take him or her out in small increments to go to the bathroom, but no dog should be left out in these elements right now," Dasaro says.
