Poll: Dems, women say Christie doing good job

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Seventy-four percent of New Jersey voters surveyed approve of the job Gov. Chris Christie is doing, tying New York's Andrew Cuomo for the highest job approval rating of any governor in states surveyed by Quinnipiac University.

Wednesday's poll shows the New Jersey Republican's positives outweigh his negatives among Democrats, independents and women.

Sixty-eight percent say Christie deserves re-election, compared with 24 percent who want someone else. Christie leads possible Democratic opponents by margins of at least 2-to-1.

The poll also shows Newark Mayor Cory Booker with an early 51 to 31 percent lead over incumbent Frank Lautenberg in the 2014 U.S. Senate race.

The survey of 1,647 registered voters was taken Jan. 15-21 and has an error margin of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
