DeKalb schools vote on restructuring plan

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -

The DeKalb County school board removed some elements from a proposed plan to build new school.

Educators send the state a "Proposed School Organization Plan" every five years to qualify for funding.

The board voted 6-3 not to go forward with extending some elementary schools from fifth to sixth grade.

The board also decided against turning Chapel Hill Middle School into a theme school for select students.

Board member Jay Cunningham says this will give parents more time to weigh-in and allow the board time to re-visit those items at a later date.

The rest of the plan will be sent off to the state. It will be considered for a state-funded program that would make DeKalb County eligible for up to $40 million.
