Tucson Convention Center deputy director fired

Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A longtime Tucson Convention Center deputy director has been fired for what officials charged were years of mismanagement of bookings at the facility costing the city hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that Tommy Obermaier was fired Friday following a five-month investigation. The probe looked into numerous violations of city policy concerning double-booking events, mishandling contracts and the loss of significant revenues.

The city started its own investigation after a Pima County Sheriff's Department investigation of a possible conflict-of-interest violation by Obermaier for acting as the TCC booker for an event for which he was also the promoter. That probe found that Obermaier did nothing illegal, but did reveal potential administrative violation.

Obermaier did not immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press.
