AVONDALE ESTATES, Ga. -

Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Avondale Estates. Police say an officer fired a shot at a suspect after a scuffle.

Avondale police said that the incident began when a driver sped through an intersection just before 6 p.m. A city patrolman then gave chase. Avondale Estates Police Chief Gary Broden said officer lost sight of the suspect before coming upon his wrecked vehicle a short time later.

It appeared that the suspect swiped a power line pole and then hit a parked vehicle in a lawn on Kensington Road. The officer told the man to stay in his car, but he allegedly refused. An altercation ensued and the officer fired a shot, hitting the suspect once, according to Broden.

The suspect's condition was not known on Friday.

Neither the officer nor the suspect has been identified.
