Casa Grande woman sentenced in tax fraud case

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Casa Grande woman has been sentenced to more than three years in prison and ordered to pay $403,000 in restitution in a tax fraud case.

Prosecutors say 36-year-old Corleen Ladawn Thompson received a 37-month sentence Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Tucson.

She must serve three years of supervised release after completing her prison term.

Thompson pleaded guilty last November to conspiracy to defraud the government by way of false claims.

Prosecutors say Thompson admitted to offering money to people whose identities were used to file fraudulent tax returns for refunds from March 2010 to January 2012.

They say some of the identity information used by Thompson came from prison inmates.

Authorities say at least 150 false federal income tax returns were filed, claiming more than $548,000 in refunds.
