PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is proposing to boost state spending in the coming budget year by more than 4 percent, with most of the new money going to schools, public safety and Child Protective Services.

The $8.9 billion spending plan for the budget year beginning July 1 was released Friday and needs Legislative approval.

It includes $110 million in new education spending, including $40 million to implement new school standards already required by the Legislature.

Another $20 million will pay for new technology required to implement new tests and $36 million of new school performance money split among schools based on how they fare on tests.

Other spending boosts in the budget include nearly $66 million for Child Protective Services workers, foster care and other CPS spending.
