PHILADELPHIA -

Three dogs officers with the Pennsylvania SPCA say were suffering were rescued Wednesday from a home in Wynnefield.

The dogs were living in the garage of a row home and were apparently eating a mattress because they had run out of food.

A FOX 29 camera was the only one to capture the conditions of where the dogs were living, which included a floor covered in feces.

"These animals have definitely been suffering for a long time," Rich Loos of the PSPCA told FOX 29's Claudia Gomez.

"They obviously haven't been eating at all, or not very much for a significant amount of time."

Among the dogs rescued, an Irish Wolfhound, who investigators say should weigh far more. Another dog, a Mastiff mix, appeared dangerously thin.

Investigators say the home appears to have been a breeding operation.

Neighbors say the tenants of the home and their two young daughters were living there for the past several years, and had promised to clean up their act but instead left.

You can watch the story from FOX 29's Claudia Gomez in the video above.
