NOVI, Mich. (WJBK) -
Featuring more than 7,000 dogs and 160 breeds, the Michigan Winter Dog Classic is Michigan's largest dog show.
The show will take place Jan. 17 - 20 at the Novi Suburban Collection Showplace. Hosted by the Oakland County and Livonia Kennel Clubs, the four-day show features exhibits, entertainment and educational seminars. A brand new feature for 2013 is the 'My Dog Can Do That' event. From 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily, dog owners can bring their furry friends and let them try some of the fun, competitive events. Participating dogs must be at least 6 months old. Make sure to bring proof of rabies vaccination when registering the dog. Registration can be done on a walk-in basis at the show.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) will offer all participants a discounted registration in its AKC Canine PartnersSM program. This program is for all dogs, including mixed-breeds, and allows them to enroll with AKC and compete in many events, including agility. Everyone who registers their dog will receive a T-shirt, bandana, one-year subscription to 'AKC Family Dog' magazine and other gifts.
Other family-friendly attractions include demonstrations, obedient and conformation judging and breed seminars.
The Michigan Winter Dog Classic is open from Noon - 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 and 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 - Sunday, Jan. 20. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for children ages 7-12 and free for children 6 and under. Family admission is also available for $35 and includes admission for two adults and three children.
Novi's Suburban Collection Showplace is located at 46100 Grand River Ave.
