NJ gives 'Law & Order: SVU' $10.2M tax break

Posted: Updated:

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey has awarded the NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" $10.2 million in tax credits the show had sought for the 2009-10 season before it shifted production to New York City.

After 10 years shooting in North Bergen, the show moved across the Hudson River after Gov. Chris Christie in 2010 called for an end to the tax breaks. The state allowed TV shows and movie companies to get back 20% of production costs in the form of tax credits.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reports the state Economic Development Authority made the award Tuesday.

The tax credit program expires in 2015.
