Infant dies, Pontiac mother may have slept on it

Posted: Updated:

PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) -- Southeastern Michigan authorities say a 25-year-old woman may have consumed alcohol and fallen asleep on her 4-week-old infant, killing the baby.

The Oakland County sheriff's department said Monday it's investigating the death, which happened Sunday in Pontiac.

The department says the woman had been visiting her 76-year-old grandmother, who had custody of the infant.

It says the infant was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital.

Child Protective Services earlier took custody of the Pontiac woman's three other children, ages 5, 7 and 8.   The sheriff's department says it jailed the woman on a prior contempt of court warrant for failing to appear at a hearing.
