Glendale family plays hockey on frozen pool

GLENDALE, Ariz. -

This Glendale family woke up to a frozen layer of ice on their swimming pool Saturday morning. And it was thick enough to play some ice hockey.

The Kaus family couldn't be more thrilled. They just happen to be huge hockey fans. For the Kaus family, their new ice rink is a dream come true.

"We're waiting for hockey to come back, we didn't think it'd be in our backyard," laughs Bridget Kaus.

Mom Bridget noticed their pool started to freeze Saturday.

"Ironically I teach figure skating so I just started taking pictures of it and posting it on Facebook."

And her family just hasn't been able to drag themselves away since.

"This is their sport so this is kind of funny."

Dad John and son Jerry are fixated on the puck.

"I think we're just passing right now, I don't think its thick enough to play a game," says Jerry Kaus.

Even the family dog Sierra wants to play.

"We're used to doing the tennis ball, she isn't sure what to do about this," says Bridget.

Even the neighbors are getting in on the fun.

"Hey who's winning?" laughs neighbor Randy Williams. "Any time he has an opportunity to play hockey he's going to play hockey, he's been praying for this for years."

"I don't need to go to Minnesota I can do it here," says John Kaus. "I'm hoping we can buy a Zamboni, that would be fun, maybe a mini Zamboni!"
