CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The dismembered body of a man was discovered on the el train tracks near the LaSalle Blue Line station early Monday, authorities said.

The conductor of an el train discovered the man as the train pulled into the LaSalle station about 1:45 a.m., authorities said. The man's body was "dismembered," said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, the body had been laying on the tracks for some time when it was discovered.

CTA workers briefly shut off power on the tracks after the body was found, according to unconfirmed dispatch reports.

Area Central detectives have launched a death investigation.
