CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - A man is in custody for allegedly leaving his infant son alone in his unlocked apartment in Chandler.

Chandler police say 26-year-old Tyler Jeffrey Dotson was found to be in possession of heroin.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotic drugs and paraphernalia and child abuse.

Police say they responded to a call of a burglary in progress about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers found a man matching the description in Dotson, but determined he wasn't involved in the burglary.

Dotson told police he had left his 3-month-old son alone in his apartment about a mile away.

Officers found the child inside the unlocked apartment and contacted his mother at work. She took possession of the child and police say they notified state Child Protective Services about the incident.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
