DES PLAINES, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
A Chicago man is in custody charged with residential burglary, after Cook County Sheriff's officers stopped a burglary attempt in unincorporated Maine Township on Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff's office said.
John W. Gilliam of Chicago was arrested and charged with felony residential burglary after police discovered him in an apartment in the 8900 block of Kennedy Drive about 1:40 p.m., a release from the Cook County Sheriff's Office said.
When officers searched Gilliam, they found a single-handle lug nut iron, screwdriver and pocketknife, along with jewelry and a set of car keys for a stolen car parked in the apartment's driveway, the release said.
Items recovered from inside the stolen car matched those reported missing from another burglary that was reported later Tuesday night in the 9600 block of Brandy Court.
Gilliam was issued a $100,000 bond in court on Wednesday. His next court date is Jan. 24 in Skokie.
