Phoenix mayor launches get fit initiative

PHOENIX -

The city of Phoenix is doing their part to keep people healthy across the valley.

Mayor Greg Stanton teamed up with the City Council and Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman to help get Phoenix in better shape -- kicking off "FitPHX" with Phoenix's "Dream Team."

It's an initiative that gives those in the valley options and resources to become healthier and feel better about themselves.

Wednesday's event at Phoenix College featured a 100-meter race along with other athletic activities to help get people on the right track.

"I feel very strongly that the city of Phoenix have given me so much and got me my start in swimming and it's such a great privilege and opportunity to have the opportunity to give back," says Olympic Gold Medalist Misty Hyman.

The goal of the program is to positively impact every resident in Phoenix and beyond -- and become the healthiest and fittest city in the nation.
