Wheelchair Bound Woman Confined To Bedroom After Lift Breaks

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A West Philadelphia woman confined to a wheelchair has been stuck in her bedroom after a lift that takes her from room to room stopped working.

Katrina Hudgins tells FOX 29's Stephanie Salvatore that countless repair jobs over the past several months have only fixed the lift temporarily. Now that the lift is stuck upstairs, Hudgins says she hasn't been able to leave her bedroom.

Hudgins called FOX 29 for help to get a permanent fix that would allow her to get on with her life.

Within 10 minutes of our call to the Philadelphia Housing Authority, and even before a repairman arrived, several PHA workers showed up at the house to investigate the problem.

Acknowledging the lift had a recurring issue, PHA workers vowed to fix it or replace it.

Repairs were scheduled to be made by the end of Wednesday. Workers told FOX 29 they would make repairs that would at least allow another family member to operate the lift.

A permanent fix is expected by Thursday.

Workers say the life expectancy on of the lift is normally 5 to 6 years. There's a good chance the housing authority will replace the lift all together.

You can watch the story in the video above.
