ATLANTA -

Scientists with the Kepler planet hunting mission at NASA say they have located 461 new planet candidates, making the total of possible planets located by Kepler 2,740.

The announcement was made on Monday.

Since the last Kepler catalog was released in February 2012, the most dramatic increases are seen in the number of Earth-size and super Earth-size candidates discovered, which grew by 43 and 21 percent respectively, according to NASA.

You don't have to leave the planet hunting to space missions and scientists. You can get involved in the process by going to planethunters.org. After signing up and going through its tutorials, you will be on your way to analyzing data to find a planet.

Planethunters.org has been credited with finding several planets, and who knows, maybe one day you will be part of the team that finds one!

You can view the full list of planet candidates and confirmed planets by going to exoplanets.org.

If you would like to keep track of the planet discoveries on your iPhone or iPad, you can download Kepler Candidates or Exoplanet.
