DETROIT (WJBK) -- The idea started in a shop in Detroit's Midtown area.  City Bird is owned by three siblings -- Andy, Emily and Rob Linn.

"We meet a lot of visitors to the city from just the region and from other countries even, and we quickly realized not only is there not really a guide to Detroit, but there hadn't been one for a long time," said Emily Linn.

In fact, it's been over an entire generation since a comprehensive guide has been updated to help visitors and residents alike of this metro area to navigate through the city.

The guide features 448 pages of everything you could possibly want to know about the city of Detroit.

"As we got into it, we realized we wanted to explore the whole city really, try to be as complete as possible, so the book features about a thousand sites.  In researching it, we researched a couple thousand places that none of us had been to before, so it was really exciting to learn a lot of new things about the city," Emily Linn explained.

As you can imagine, the journey of putting this all together was something that this family will never forget.

"In exploring the 2,000 places that I've never seen before, I really learned a lot that I never expected I would learn and it was really a rich experience," said Rob Linn.

"Belle Isle to 8 Mile: An Insider's Guide to Detroit" can be purchased at City Bird on West Canfield in Midtown or by visiting www.belleisleto8mile.com.
