Preschools stress hand-washing during flu season

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

Preschoolers -- those adorable 3- and 4-year-olds -- are usually the first to get the flu. Then they pass it on to mom and dad.

Any teacher can tell you schools can be a hotbed of bacterial infections and viruses. Many preschools are taking measures to prevent catching the flu.

"Kids are touching everything. If you think about it they are touching absolutely everything," says Dana Vela, President of Sunrise Preschool.

Kids are just curious, and Sunrise Preschool wants them to be curious -- but stay healthy as well. They do a lot of hand washing here.

Hand washing has become an important habit for kids at Sunrise.

"All day long we wash hands after every activity, it's the best prevention for any winter time misery."

There are reminders posted for parents too.

Some of the preventive measures include wiping down tables, door knobs, chairs and even toys. Teachers also wear gloves.

Even with all the precautions, kids will get sick.

"Because the flu is airborne you can get it at the grocery store."

The preschool urges parents to make sure their kids wash their hands at home as well.

The saying art is autobiographical takes on a whole new meaning when your canvas is a fully nude human body, as it is for artist Andy Golub. Andy along with 30 other artists and 45 Technicolor models paraded around several Manhattan hotspots over the weekend for NYC Body Painting day. Believe or not, this is completely legal in New York City.
