Woman stops intruder with machete

Posted: Updated:
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -

It was a rude awakening for a woman when she woke up to find a complete stranger in her home -- sleeping on her couch.

Her food was eaten, her valuables were on the floor, ready to go, but Teryl Parnell didn't run and hide.  Instead, she grabbed a machete!

Parnell says she wasn't afraid and her faith in God -- and the big knife -- got her through the ordeal.

"You're in my house, you're invading my space.  This is what God has blessed me with..I'm going to stand in here and fight."

She tricked the man by offering him coffee and left the room, only to return with the machete, something she knows exactly how to use.

"That's when I unsheathed the machete and I said no you need to get back. You need to sit down right  here. And stay and wait for the cops to get here," she said.  "Typical mom right. I just go over there and slap his feet off  the couch. Like what are you doing with your feet up on my couch? I'm like, are you kidding  me? I went bam!"

When deputies arrived at the scene, they took 25-year-old Christopher Weaver into custody, then released on bail.  But it didn't take long before he was arrested again -- this time for driving a stolen car.
