LECHEE, Ariz. (AP) - A man who pleaded guilty in the death of a woman on the Navajo Nation has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
But Gilbert Wilson says he's appealing the sentence handed down last month. Wilson claims in a recent letter to a federal court that his lawyer misled him about the sentencing range and that he was restricted in his arguments.
Wilson had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2011 death of Jennis Tso. Witnesses told authorities that Wilson and Tso had been arguing over a phone when Wilson retrieved a gun from his truck, threw Tso to the ground and shot her in the forehead and left shoulder.
Authorities said Wilson turned himself in a week after Tso's body was discovered outside a mobile home in LeChee.
