Do cell phones pose a danger in flight?

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Does cell phone use pose a danger in flight? The debate has been going on for years, and in 2012 the FAA began a study looking into the matter.

According to a report on The Huffington Post, the FCC has recommended to the FAA that restrictions on cell phone use on aircraft be eased. That recommendation was made last month in a letter to the head of the FAA.

In a report made last fall, the Associated Press reported that the FAA doesn't ban devices such as smartphones and laptops, but says airlines can only allow them to be used if they have been tested not to interfere with the electronics in the cockpit. The report says with thousands of new devices coming out at such a fast pace, airlines just ban them during takeoff and landing.

The FAA will not have an answer to the study until March.

What do you think? Should the FCC ease the restrictions on cell phone use while in flight? Post your comments on our FOX 5 Atlanta Facebook page, or tweet us @GoodDayAtlanta.
