From Miss Saint Clair Shores to Miss Michigan and maybe to Miss America -- it could happen for a local woman who didn't enter her first pageant until after high school. But it's more about just glitz and glamour for this young woman.
"On Tuesday night, I'll watch Angela do her on stage question," said Vita Venditti. "Wednesday she does swimsuit and evening gown, and Thursday she does her talent, which is tap dance."
Venditti's daughter, Angela, A.K.A. Miss Michigan, is already in Las Vegas for the televised pageant on Saturday. She flies out Tuesday.
"Very excited for Angela. I'm eager to get there, eager to get to Las Vegas, and a little jittery inside."
But Monday, Venditti was remaining focused on her job at C.A.R.E. helping families touched by substance abuse.
"That is the field that I work in, and Angela started here at C.A.R.E. as a volunteer about age 14."
Understandably, there is a lack of glamour in the office that perfectly reflects mother and daughter's shared public service mission -- the part of Miss America that takes a back seat to glittering gowns and crowns.
"I think it's not really about what's outside of you. It's really more about what's inside of you. Angela has a really good heart. She's very generous, and her platform, every girl has to have a platform, and her platform is above the influence, keeping kids drug free."
Angela Venditti only started competing six years ago, so this is her first and last year of eligibility. Graduate school awaits if she wins, but mom said she is proud her daughter is level headed and enjoying the ride.
"She headed into it to have a good time, to meet the girls, to meet new people and really enjoy the experience, and she sounds pretty positive and grounded."
