Posted: Updated:

A Deptford Township Police officer has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault in connection with an early morning shooting on Stanford Avenue.

The home belongs to Officer James Stuart, 29, he shot a 27-year-old male inside the residence.  The victim was taken to Cooper Medical Center, with a single gunshot wound to his head. There is no word on his current condition.

Neighbors tell FOX 29's Meg Baker that Stuart is a "very nice guy, who serves the community well," they say the neighborhood is "very quiet, everyone very friendly and other than [the shooting] not much happens around here."

Stuart has posted the $10,000 bail set on his charges, and is not currently in police custody.  He has been suspended, with pay, from the Deptford Township Police Department.
