Officer shot at Bronx car dealership out of hospital

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
The hero police officer who was shot while catching a robbery suspect is home after he was released from the hospital Saturday.
Officer Juan Pichardo was released from Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx around noon.
Pichardo was shot in the leg Thursday night when a man robbed his family's car dealership. After the gunman ransacked the dealership's office, Pichardo grabbed the suspect and was shot in the thigh during the struggle.
Officer Pichardo and another employee managed to wrestle the suspect to the ground.

West Side resident Matt Murphy has stored a pail of leftovers on his floor for the last two months. His building is part of the city's food-recycling pilot program. Mayor Bloomberg wants to expand the program citywide.

Police say a Bronx man was killed when he was struck by a car early Sunday morning. 27-year-old Kevin Bell of the Bronx was found by police lying on East 233rd Street in the Woodlawn section with trauma to his body around 3:30 a.m. EMS arrived to the scene and pronounced Bell dead upon arrival. Authorities have made no arrests and are still investigating.
