Former Marine Who Collects Thousands Of Toys For Kids Wins Furniture Giveaway

Posted: Updated:
Mt. Laurel, N.J. -

A former marine who works to collect thousands of toys for kids each Christmas is getting a big "thank you."

FOX 29 first introduced you to Bill Wilson in December. The 74-year-old former Marine's home is transformed every year into a Santa's workshop and is filled with thousands of toys collected for Toys for Tots.

This year, Wilson and his volunteers collected more than 37,000 toys for 12,000 kids.

Wilson would have taken a simple thank you for his efforts, but instead, he was named the winner of an area furniture giveaway.

A volunteer nominated Wilson for the "Mealey's Houseful of Furniture" giveaway.

Wilson's efforts made him an easy choice for a winner.

Wilson's Mt. Laurel townhouse hadn't had any new furniture in it since 1978, but come January 9th, he'll be the proud owner of a new living room, dining room and bedroom set.

You can watch the story in the video above.

It was a gloomy Sunday as the whole area remain socked in with low clouds & fog, drizzle and scattered showers.

The weather remains unsettled through most of the work week. The difference is that it will really warm up -- temperatures soar into the 80s by Tuesday.  That mild and humid air mass will fuel afternoon thunderstorms.

By Thursday a cold front moves by bringing more rain.  It will also bring drier and cooler weather by Friday as we finally clear out.
