PEORIA, Ariz. -

Peoria Police have arrested a man on robbery charges after they say he stole a woman's iPhone out of her hand Thursday morning.

Police say 30-year-old Christopher Lopez of Glendale targeted a 20-year-old woman waiting at a bus stop near 67th Ave and Peoria. He allegedly ripped her cell phone out of her hands and then ran into a nearby neighborhood.

The victim contacted police, and they decided to track the phone's location using its GPS locator app. They pinpointed the phone was in the area of 59th and Gardenia Avenues.

Officers responded to the area and found Lopez, who matched the suspect's description. While questioning Lopez about the incident, police sent a signal to the stolen phone, causing it to "scream" from Lopez's pocket.

Lopez admitted to the robbery and officers recovered the stolen phone.

He said he did it because he needed money to get his car out of impound after a drug arrest the day before, police say.
