As soon as you step outside, you'll see the haze and you can even smell it.
The haze that blanketed the valley Tuesday morning was actually from people using their fireplaces and the smoke from Monday night's fireworks displays.
This happens this time of the year because so many people want to have a fire going during the holidays -- even though the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality issued a "no burn day" from midnight to midnight Jan. 1.
With clearing skies, light winds and cold temperatures in the valley, burning wood will increase the fine particles in the air and make it difficult to breathe.
ADEQ says residents and business owners cannot use fireplaces, wood stoves or outdoor fire pits. They're also asking people to drive as little as possible, avoid using leaf blowers and avoid driving on dirt roads.
