DETROIT (WJBK) -- Volunteers were out Monday helping the effort to find an elderly wife missing since December 1.  Her husband is hoping their love story has a happy ending.

Volunteers and family members first met at Sweet Potato Sensations in northwest Detroit to get a plan together, hoping it would bring Joyce Friday home.  The 74-year-old suffers from dementia and wandered away from her house.

"We're just looking all over.  I go to the parking lots, put [flyers] on the cars, up all night searching," said husband Calvin Friday.

Joyce and Calvin have been married 23 years and together for more than 30.  Both are retired.  They had plans to travel the world together, but then Joyce got cancer.  She survived only to have dementia set in.

Around 40 volunteers joined in on the search.  They headed out on foot and passed out flyers.  They focused on the area of Grand River and Lahser.  It's a routine her husband has been living every day since her disappearance.  People have reported seeing Joyce, but the leads have gone cold.

"They've seen her on Ford Road about a week and a half ago at Walmart's," he said.  "They've seen her at Livonia Mall about the first week she was missing."

Her husband won't rest until he is reunited with his one true love.

"Wherever the Lord leads me to, that's where I'll go."

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to Joyce Friday's safe return.  If you know anything about her whereabouts call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
