DUI saturation patrols sweep roads for drunk drivers

PHOENIX -

Drivers can expect to see DUI task forces out in full effect on New Year's Eve, looking to make sure the roads are safe for holiday celebrations.

The governor's office and DPS are announcing big time DUI enforcement, with a major increase in the amount of officers hitting valley streets.

Statewide patrol officers are making an extra effort to keep people safe this New Year's eve. The message "Drive Hammered, Get Nailed" is plastered on more than 100 billboards across the state.

"Hundreds of officers will be out tonight all over the state, and here in the valley we have a task force, a saturation patrol not a checkpoint that will blanket the east valley from Tempe, and the west valley out by the stadium, we have another detail. I'll be there tonight and we're going to blanket them with that," said Alberto Gutierrez, Governor's Office of Highway Safety.

Highway Patrol is hoping the billboards and added officers on the street will encourage people to think twice before driving under the influence.
