Three dead in Bronx fire

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Three people are dead and dozens of other homeless after a fire in the Soundview section of the Bronx.

The fire broke out just before 6 a.m. at 735 Beach Avenue.

A 12-year-old boy and two elderly adults died in the fire.   The boy was identified as Jahvonte Smith, a third floor resident.  The other victims were 71-year-old Annetta Isaac and 73-year-old John Debro.

A 48-year-old woman broke her ankle after jumping from a second-floor window.  She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in stable condition.  Her name was not released.

A 15-year-old girl and a 73-year-old woman was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in stable condition for unknown injuries related to the fire.

The fire quickly engulfed all three floors of the building and went to three alarms.  It took hours for the 138 responding firefighters to get it under control hours later.

Two firefighters were also transported to Jacobi Hospital with minor injuries.Late Monday afternoon investigators were still on scene and residents of the building were still waiting to hear about the condition of their apartments.

The Red Cross says 34 people who lived in the building have been displaced.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
