(L-R) Former Eagles coach Andy Reid addressed Eagles employees Monday alongside Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Lurie after he was dismissed.
PHILADELPHIA -
After 14-years, the Philadelphia Eagles announced Monday that Andy Reid's tenure as head coach has ended.
The team made the announcement on its official website Monday morning, following an end of the season loss to the New York Giants.
"Andy Reid won the most games of any head coach in Eagles history and he is someone I respect greatly and will remain friends with for many years to come," Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement.
"But, it is time for the Eagles to move in a new direction. Coach Reid leaves us with a winning tradition that we can build upon. And we are very excited about the future."
Reid joined the Eagles in 1999. By 2000, the team made the playoffs - the first of nine postseason trips in Reid's 14 seasons.
This season, the steam struggled, posting a 4-12 record .
According to the Eagles, Reid's 140 victories are a franchise record and rank 22nd among all-time NFL coaches.
The team says its search for a new coach will begin immediately.
Over his 14 years, the 54-year-old Reid had more wins and more losses than any coach in Eagles history. Reid took the Eagles to the playoffs nine times, posting a 10-9 post season record.
The 2011 and 2012 seasons mark the only two years the team went back-to-back seasons without a playoff appearance.
The former coach won six division titles and went to the NFC Championship game five times but was only 1-4 in those games.
