Upper Darby Residents Still Without Heat in Frigid Temps

Posted: Updated:
Upper Darby -

The nights are getting colder, and residents of The Gardens apartments in Upper Darby are still without heat; a precious commodity these days.

"One room is warm.  One room is cold.  The bathroom is cold, the kitchen is cold," said Victoria Savage.

She has a space heater helping out in the den but takes it into her bedroom at night, for some kind of good night's sleep.

Residents said they were told the problem would be fixed before Christmas.  Instead, they got a letter on Friday saying it will take ten days longer or more to fix a broken boiler.

"I don't know what to believe or should I believe them now?" Savage said, adding she is tired of broken promises.  She's not alone.

"When I got that letter yesterday my heart just dropped," said Charlene Langley.  "What am I going to do?"

We tried to talk with apartment managers but they're offices are closed on weekends.

FOX29 did speak with Mark D'Antonio, the contractor working on the repairs.  He said the delay is due in part to issues in shipping parts for the job.

He also said they have to dig underground to fix piping problems, which will also take some time.

FOX29 will stay on top of the project until residents of The Gardens apartments feel the heat returning.
