Police say they arrested a 17-year-old girl who stabbed and killed an 18-year-old woman near Lawrence Lane and 27th Avenue early Saturday morning.
A 19-year-old was also arrested for allegedly assaulting the stabbing victim.
Lorena Sandra Uzueta was found with stab wounds in a car that had crashed on the I-17 near Glendale Avenue. Her friends were driving her to a hospital when they were involved in a collision.
Officers say the driver of the car fled. Uzueta was taken to a hospital where she later died.
According to investigators, a fight broke out at a party near 27th Avenue and Grovers. Uzueta helped break up the fight, left and went to a party on Lawrence Lane and 27th Avenue.
At the party, a 17-year-old juvenile female allegedly attacked and stabbed Uzueta. Afterward, police say 19-year-old Alexis Nicole Hernandez started fighting with Uzueta.
While Hernandez held and fought her, the 17-year-old girl reportedly stabbed Uzueta a second time, according to police.
Both suspects fled the area.
After discovering Uzueta, police were able to find and detain the 17-year-old girl, Hernandez and a number of other people.
After talking to witnesses, investigators took the 17-year-old into custody on charges of first degree murder. Hernandez was booked into jail and charged with aggravated assault.
In addition, police say they discovered 18-year-old Charlie Trinidad had fired a gun into the air during the original fight; he also had marijuana on him.
He was booked into jail and charged with misconduct involving weapons and possession of marijuana.
The juvenile's name will not be released unless she is charged as an adult.
