Kids judge best floats for Fiesta Bowl parade

PHOENIX -

The Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade is Saturday. Four kids faced a big task Friday morning -- they were given the job of judging the floats that thousands will see at this year's Fiesta Bowl parade.

"We're going to choose which one is the best one," says little Julie Roman.

Julie Roman and three other kids were selected as "half pint judges" by Arizona milk producers.

"I'm probably going to be judging them on the color and the creativity," says little Andrew Underwood.

"I'm trying to look for creativity," says little Aliah Ventura.

Payson Parks and Rec director Cameron Davis says the kids were impressed by the city's float.

"Just a lot of ooh's and aah's, the kids loved it," says Davis. "They loved the animals, all the camping aspects, fishing they loved the big eagle that's on the front here that's grabbing a rainbow trout out of the lake."

Amy Elinski worked on Wickenburg's float and she's hoping that weeks of hard work pays off with a win.

"All of the cacti are made out of paper mache and PVC pipes. We hand painted everything, we hand built it ourselves," she says. "For all of the effort we put in it we definitely deserve to win."

But from floats depicting standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona, to the Grand Canyon University mascot slamming dunks, the competition is stiff.

The parade starts Saturday, Dec. 29 at 11 a.m.
