PHOENIX -

A 3-year-old child and an adult were hit by a car at Central and McDowell during rush hour Friday night.

About 5 p.m., two women were pushing a stroller across the street when the stroller and the child's mother were hit by a white Kia.

"They were running across, it was a red light running, across trying to catch the bus," said witness Jacqueline Morris.

"The lady was trying to jaywalk and the guy hit them and the baby went flying out of the stroller," said witness Adam Richardson.

The toddler was rushed to Phoenix Children's Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The toddler's mother suffered a broken leg, and was also transported.

Both are expected to survive. Police say the victims didn't have the right of way.

The driver stopped at the scene and has been cooperative with police, and is not expected to be charged.

The intersection of Central and McDowell was closed but reopened about 6 p.m.
