Airman Who Died 66 Years Ago Buried In New Jersey

NORTH HANOVER TWP., N.J. -

There were military honors Thursday for an airman who died more than 66 years ago.

Staff Sgt. Zolton Dobovich, 21, of Bethlehem Township, Pa., was killed on Nov. 1, 1946, when his plane crashed in the French Alps.

It took years for his remains to be located, and it took even longer for them to be identified. He had been buried at Arlington National Cemetery under a tombstone bearing the names of eight airmen who died in that crash.

But Thursday his remains were moved to the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in North Hanover Township, Burlington County.

Dobovich was born in Pennsylvania, but his family lives in New Jersey now. Gov. Chris Christie ordered flags to fly at half staff Thursday in honor of the staff sergeant.
