Firefighters respond to laundry room fire on Gold Coast

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A fire in the laundry room of a Gold Coast high-rise brought a response from the Chicago Fire Department on Wednesday afternoon.

About 3:15 p.m., a still-and-box alarm was called for a fire at 100 E. Bellevue Pl., according to Fire Media Affairs. The fire was contained to ductwork in a laundry room and there was light smoke in the room, according to Fire Media.

An EMS Plan I response, which brings at least five ambulances, was called as a precaution, though no injuries were reported.

Firefighters used extinguishers and a hose line on the fire, which was extinguished by 3:35 p.m.

Fire personnel were staging their efforts at Division Street and Lake Shore Drive, and motorists, as well as CTA bus riders who travel through that area, should expect delays.

The 31-story high-rise was built about 1970, according to various real estate websites.
