Police: NJ man shot wife, self on Christmas

Posted: Updated:

CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) - Police in northern New Jersey say a man shot his wife and then shot himself on Christmas Day.

The Clifton couple was taken to the hospital Tuesday. Clifton Police Sgt. Robert Bracken tells The Record of Woodland Park that both underwent surgery. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Authorities say the couple's daughter owns the house and lives on the second floor, but was not home at the time of the shooting.

Police closed off the street around the house Tuesday afternoon.

It wasn't known what led to the shooting. The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office is investigating.
