Christmas tree recycling at Oakland County Parks and Recreation

Posted: Updated:

(WJBK) -- Now that Christmas 2012 is behind us, you might be wondering what to do with your Christmas tree?  The Oakland County Parks and Recreation offers 11 park locations to make holiday cleanup easy and environmentally friendly by offering to recycle Christmas trees.

Christmas tree recycling starts December 26th and is scheduled to run through January 13, 2013, seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Recycling will take place at Addison Oaks in Leonard; Catalpa Oaks in Southfield; Glen Oaks Golf Course in Farmington Hills; Groveland Oaks near Holly; Independence Oaks in Clarkston; Lyon Oaks in Lyon Township; Oakland County Market in Waterford; Orion Oaks in Orion Township; Red Oaks Golf Course in Madison Heights; Springfield Oaks in Davisburg; and White Lake Oaks Golf Course in White Lake.

Officials say tree drop-off is free but all decorations- - including plastic, tinsel and wire must be removed from trees prior to arrival. Large quantities from commercial lots will not be accepted. The program is self-service; assistance in removing trees from vehicles is unavailable. Processed trees for compost and wood chips are made available to the public free of charge in 2013.

For more information about the Christmas tree recycling program, visit Oakland County Parks and Recreation at www.DestinationOakland.com or find Oakland County Parks and Recreation on Facebook.

When you hear about a place that still sells records, located in a hip neighborhood in the borough of Brooklyn, you enter that store with certain expectations. One of them being: you hope the guy behind the counter talks about music the way Cory Fierman does."I think it's just like the most important thing to you," he says. "I don't know how to describe it.
